American World Cup star Landon Donovan says he will do what’s necessary if the report that he allegedly fathered a baby with a British woman turns out to be a reality.
Following the news that a British newspaper is going to publish a report that an unidentified woman claims she is carrying Donovan’s child, the soccer star is speaking out.
“I was informed of the possibility during the World Cup, and if I need to take responsibility, then I will provide the appropriate support,” the 28-year-old athlete said in a statement to Access Hollywood. “This is a private matter, and I will refrain from further comment at this time.”
Donovan, who plays for LA Galaxy stateside, played on loan for Liverpool club Everton in the U.K. in the winter of 2009.
The soccer star is currently separated from wife Bianca Kajlich, but is not divorced from the “Rules of Engagement” actress.
On Saturday, Donovan and the rest of his team were eliminated from the 2010 World Cup, after being defeated by Ghana 2-1.
