Larry King: ‘Sad & Happy’ Following Announcement Of Departure

One day after announcing his departure from CNN’s “Larry King Live” after 25 years behind the desk, the legendary interviewer told Access Hollywood that he’s experiencing mixed emotions about hanging up his trademark suspenders.

“It’s sad and happy all at the same time,” Larry told Access on Wednesday, explaining that he is looking forward to spending more time with his family.

“I got kids! 11 and 10! Little league stars!” he continued, adding that his wife, Shawn King, was excited with his decision.

“The wife was very happy. She was very supportive. She always wanted me to do other things, she always felt that CNN…was too restrictive.”

Though Larry will continue to work for CNN hosting various specials for the network, the news legend said he’s already looking for his next job.

“I’m going to sit down and talk to people,” he said of future prospects.

As for who he’d like to interview before he departs, Larry told Access, “Osama bin Laden and Bernie Madoff, get me those two! And if you get them on the same show…evil is a fascinating subject. Evil is more interesting than good.”

Larry reiterated his interest in Ryan Seacrest taking over the reigns from him.

“As I said yesterday [Ryan] would be my choice to replace me,” he told Access, jokingly adding, “And you know Ryan needs another job.”

Larry also released a statement on Wednesday, saying, “I am thankful to every viewer who watched, every caller who asked a question and to the thousands of guests who appeared on my program. I am especially grateful to CNN for giving me the opportunity and to my many staff members over the years. Without all of you, none of this would have been possible, and I am deeply thankful to you and humbled by your show of esteem and respect.”

Following Larry’s announcement Ryan Tweeted, “You’re a legend @kingsthings. One of a kind.”

Access also caught up with Donald Trump on Wednesday, who shared his candid thoughts on Larry’s exit.

“I’m sure he could stay longer if he wanted to. He’s terrific, he’s the best,” Donald told Access. “And I’m sure CNN is not thrilled with him leaving.”

Some reports have suggested that CBS News anchor Katie Couric or “America’s Got Talent” judge Piers Morgan would also make good candidates for Larry. Deadline.com reported that CNN is talks with Joy Behar – who hosts “The Joy Behar Show” on HLN as a possible replacement.
