Larry King Says Piers Morgan Is ‘Good, But Not That Dangerous’ As Host Of CNN Show

Piers Morgan may have bested dozens of celebrities to become “The Celebrity Apprentice,” but with sliding ratings for his CNN show, “Piers Morgan Tonight,” he hasn’t yet captured the hearts of America — and Larry King might know why.

“I think they might have been better off starting quietly,” Larry told the BBC’s Radio 4 of Piers’ show, which scooped up Oprah Winfrey as his first interview, and banned Madonna before the program even started.

“I think one of the problems they did was over sell it,” Larry added. “[They said] he was going to be dangerous, he was going to be water cooler talk.”

Larry said he thinks the former tabloid editor, who has a successful talk show in the UK – “Piers Morgan’s Life Stories” — and is a judge on “America’s Got Talent,” does a fine job, but isn’t living up to his show’s promises.

“He’s good, but not that dangerous,” Larry, who retired from “Larry King Live” in December, said. “I think they might have been better off starting quietly and that’s not Piers’ fault, or maybe it is, I’m not inside anymore.”

Larry even had some advice for Piers – don’t interrupt one’s guests.

“He’s certainly not bad. He’s certainly an acceptable host. He asks good questions, maybe he interrupts a little too much at times. I think he may have been oversold,” the TV talk veteran suggested.

Not long after Larry’s comments surfaced, Lord Alan Sugar, the Donald Trump equivalent on the British “Apprentice” program, pointed out to Piers what Larry said about him, via Twitter.

“Piersy with friends like Larry King you don’t need enemies. I’m a pussy cat compared to this,” Lord Sugar Tweeted, linking to Larry’s comments.

Piers replied that he remains respectful of Larry.

“Larry King remains one of my heroes, Shugs, so he can say whatever he likes. You, however….” Piers wrote on his own Twitter page on Friday.
