‘Law & Order’s’ Future Up In The Air

After two decades on the air, is it case closed for “Law & Order”?

Reports surfaced on Thursday that NBC was canceling the long-running series, which stars Sam Waterson and S. Epatha Merkerson (who is leaving at the end of the current season). However, sources tell Access Hollywood that the fate of the show is still to be determined.

A source close to the negotiations tells Access they are still in discussions on the future of the show.

According to E! Online, one outlet which reported the rumored cancellation, the cast reportedly learned of the news on Thursday.

If canceled, “Law & Order” would fall one season shy of outpacing “Gunsmoke” as the longest-running drama in television history.

“Law & Order” has had a host of guest stars over the course of the current season.

Joining regulars Jeremy Sisto, Anthony Anderson, Alana De La Garza and Linus Roache, have been actors including alumni Benjamin Bratt, and guest stars like Chevy Chase and Vivica A. Fox.

In addition, Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn’s cameo airs on Thursday night.
