Liv Tyler Weighs In On Dad Steven’s ‘Idol’ Performance: ‘I Had Goose Bumps’

For most, Steven Tyler has been the surprise standout thus far on the new season of “American Idol.”

While his off-the-cuff quirky comments have entertained viewers, his fellow judges and at times – even the contestants themselves, one person who has heard Steven’s barrage of one-liners for years is his daughter, Liv.

“Was he always this funny?” Access Hollywood’s Maria Menounos asked Liv in Park City, Utah over the weekend, where Liv was promoting her new film “The Ledge” at the Sundance Film Festival.

“Yeah, he’s very funny. He’s really good at the weird sayings that just come out of his mouth out of nowhere all the time,” Liv admitted.

However, at times, Liv noted, his “Tylerisms” can get lost in translation.

“Trying to translate his texts are really funny,” she joked. “I’m like, ‘Whoa!’… and all in capital letters, but I understand exactly what he’s talking about. It’s funny.”

Although it’s his quick wit which has raised eyebrows early on, Steven also takes his job very seriously – something that surprised fellow “Idol” newcomer Jennifer Lopez off guard.

“I was surprised at how soulful he is. I didn’t expect that,” Jennifer previously told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover during an Access Hollywood Live interview earlier this month. “I thought he was going to be like a crazy rock ‘n’ roller… but he’s actually a very soulful person and he’s very vulnerable.”

For Liv, while she had never been a big “Idol” fan in the past, sitting down to watch her dad on the show wasn’t just about his crazy comments – it was also a very emotional experience.

“I was so excited. I’ve never really watched ‘American Idol’ – I had seen it once or twice. I just watched with my girlfriends at home the other night and I had goose bumps for an hour-and-a-half and laughed and loved it!” she raved. “I thought it was really special. I think they hit something amazing with the combination [of judges] that they’ve got.”

So now that she’s got a family connection, will Liv be tuning in week after week to see Steven critique the “Idol” hopefuls?

“I’m hooked,” she added. “Yeah, I am.”
