Liza Minnelli And Ex Drop Lawsuits, Move On With Divorce

NEW YORK (January 19, 2007) — It’s not like Liza Minnelli and David Gest are kissing and making up. But, they are dropping the lawsuits they’d filed against each other.

It’s so they can move on with their divorce.

Gest’s lawyer says the two will be divorced within the next few weeks in Memphis, Tennessee, where Gest has a home. They chose Tennessee because the state, unlike New York, has no-fault divorce.

Minnelli and Gest married March 16, 2002, in a ceremony that featured Michael Jackson as best man carrying the bride’s train and Elizabeth Taylor as maid of honor.

They split in July 2003 and both filed for divorce later that year. Gest had sued Minnelli for ten million dollars for assault. He’d said Minnelli had beaten him so badly he was in the hospital for five days.

Minnelli countersued, accusing Gest of stealing at least two million dollars she earned while performing in shows he had produced.
