Lori Loughlin Talks ‘Fuller House’ & Tanner Family Reunion

How much room is “Fuller House” saving for Aunt Becky?

Lori Loughlin spoke with Access Hollywood on Saturday about her role in the upcoming Netflix revival, telling fans that no matter where the spotlight may point, she’s just happy to help bring the Tanners back together.

“It’s a spinoff for Candace Cameron, for Jodie Sweetin and for Andrea Barber,” she said, referring to the show’s driving storyline that follows Candace’s character, D.J. Tanner, as a new widow who recruits her younger sister and best friend to help raise her kids.

The plot may sound familiar to original “Full House” viewers, but Lori explained how the new show’s purpose is to present the same family from a new perspective – and for a new generation. The ’90s sitcom’s leading men, she said, will also likely stay in the background.

“Myself, Dave Coulier and Bob Saget will only be doing, as of now, the first episode,” she confirmed, adding, “I think John Stamos might be doing the first two.”

While the series, set to drop in 2016, won’t focus specifically on Lori’s character, the actress did say her future on “Fuller House” is open-ended.

“It remains to be seen if we pop up throughout the season,” she said, clarifying that there are presently no concrete plans to weave the rest of the returning cast into the permanent narrative. “I’m not sure, but right now it is a spinoff and that’s what Netflix has bought.”

As for her reaction to the Olsen twins’ decision not to reprise their dual role as youngest Tanner Michelle, Lori echoed her co-star and onscreen husband Stamos’ dismay but also wished the entrepreneurs well.

“I was disappointed, but everybody has their reasons,” she said. “I love them so much and we’ll always love them and they’ll always be part of the ‘Full House’ family.”

“Fuller House” may only be in its early stages, but Lori said she’s looking forward to what the update has in store long-term.

“It’s great. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun to get together with everyone and just even do that one reunion show will be so much fun,” she told Access. “And then I think for Candace and Jodie and Andrea it’ll be a wonderful opportunity to take the franchise to the next level.”

The anticipated follow-up, she acknowledged, is a welcome blast from the past for more than just the actors.

“I think a lot of people are excited,” she said, “and we’re excited, too.”
