Mackenzie Phillips Enters Rehab; Authorities File Felony Drug Charges Actress

MacKenzie Phillips, who has long battled drug addiction and already has had several stints in rehab, is seeking treatment again, Access Hollywood has learned.

Her latest stint in rehab comes following her arrest on August 27 for allegedly possessing, according to LAX police, “what appeared to be heroin and cocaine in baggies and balloons.”

Phillips was to be arraigned, but her attorney Blair Berk told the judge in open court today that the “One Day at a Time” actress is currently in rehab. In recognition of that, the judge put off the arraignment until October 3, so that Phillips could continue her treatment.

Phillips, charged with two felonies for cocaine and heroine possession, and a misdemeanor for unauthorized possession of a syringe, faces a possible three years and eight months in prison for the felonies and six months for the misdemeanor.

And while Phillips was not in court, that didn’t stop authorities from filing felony drug charges against the actress earlier today, according to City News Service.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Phillips was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport on August 27 after she was pulled out of a security line and searched by TSA personnel.

The actress, 48, started her career with great promise, both as a singer and an actress.

As a teenager she appeared the George Lucas’s seminal film “American Graffiti,” then later in the popular sitcom “One Day At A Time,” with Valerie Bertinelli. The actress was on her way to New York for a “One Day at a Time” reunion at the time of the arrest.

Phillips has had drug troubles surface over her career, causing her to get fired from “One Day At A Time” on two separate occasions.

The actress’ father, John Phillips, fought his own lengthy battles with drugs. He died from complications from a heart condition in 2001.
