Mackenzie Phillips Leaves Jail

Mackenzie Phillips was released from jail Thursday, Access Hollywood has confirmed.

This latest problem for Phillips began Wednesday at Los Angeles International Airport when she was pulled out of a security line and searched by TSA personnel. According to LA Police , they found quantities of both heroin and cocaine on Phillips and she was taken into custody.

Airport police Sgt. Jim Holcomb said Phillips had “a lot of syringes” on her.

She’s facing felony charges of possession of a controlled substance, according to police.

Phillips was on her way to New York for a “One Day at a Time” reunion at the time of the arrest.

A court date has not been set for Phillips, according to Sgt. Jim Holcomb.

The actress, 48, started her career with great promise, both as a singer and an actress. She’s the daughter of John Phillips, who founded the 1960’s psychedelic pop quartet The Mamas and The Papas.

As a teenager she appeared the George Lucas’s seminal film “American Graffiti,” then later in the popular sit-com “One Day At A Time,” with Valerie Bertinelli.

Phillips has had drug troubles surface over her career, causing her to get fired from “One Day At A Time,” twice.

The actress’ father, John Phillips, fought his own lengthy battles with drugs. He died from complications from a heart condition in 2001.
