Madonna & Gisele Are Latest Celebs To Give To Haitian Relief Effort

Madonna and Gisele Bundchen are the latest celebrities to put their star power & money behind the relief efforts in Haiti following the massive earthquake that rocked the island nation earlier this week.

“My prayers are with the people of Haiti. I can’t imagine the terrible pain and suffering they are experiencing,” Madonna said in a statement released to Access Hollywood.

The singer, who is known for her charity work in Malawi, has donated funds of her own to help the victims.

“Sadly the depths of the tragedy are just becoming known and the need for our support grows more urgent with every passing moment. I have given a donation of $250,000 to assist Haiti’s earthquake victims through Partner’s in Health (www.pih.org) one of Haiti’s leading health care providers,” she continued.

Madonna also asked her contemporaries and loyal fan base to dig deep into their pockets for the people of Haiti.

“I urge all of my friends and fans around the world to join me collectively to match my contribution or give in any way you can. We must act now,” she said. “Thank you for your support”

According to People, a source close to the supermodel said, ‘[she] was so moved, she knew she had to do what she could to help.” Gisele reportedly wrote a $1.5 million check to the Red Cross on Thursday.

Previously announced donations include $1 million combined from Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie and a reported large donation by golfer Tiger Woods.

According to the Associated Press, Tuesday’s 7.0-magnitude earthquake killed an estimated 45,000 to 50,000 people.
