Maksim Chmerkovskiy & Hope Solo On Why They Showed A Softer Side On ‘Dancing’

Maksim Chmerkovskiy showed off a softer side on Monday night’s “Dancing with the Stars” as the program featured footage of the professional dancer having a nice family meal with his partner, Hope Solo, and the two said it was all on purpose.

“Have you seen the seven weeks of our packages? It was all negativity — lots of curse words, me kicking the wall, us being very physical and intense, and that’s not really fair to our fans,” Hope told Access Hollywood on Monday night after “DWTS.” “This is a dance show, and people want to see you happy and having fun. We’re competitors, so we got really intense.”

Maks noted, however, that the intensity is real.

“It’s not a line,” Maks added. “We’re still intense about wanting to do well in this competition. We kind of did not take into consideration that there’s cameras in the room.

“A lot of things that we understand between each other, people don’t, because they’re not with us,” Maks continued. “They just see a little snippet. We just had to be a little politically correct, but once again, we are incapable of putting on a show as far as acting — we’re not lying to anybody.”

“DWTS” continues on Tuesday at 8/7 C on ABC.
