‘Mall Cop’ Gunning For Big Box Office Weekend

“Paul Blart: Mall Cop” is looking to top a healthy weekend box office over the holiday weekend, according to studio estimates.

The surprise hit, featuring Kevin James in his first role at the top of the marquee after starring alongside Adam Sandler and Will Smith in previous big screen efforts, made $9.8 million on Friday and will likely notch $30 million over the three-day weekend.

But “Blart” wasn’t the only film to have a big day at the box office – Notorious B.I.G. biopic “Notorious” earned $8.31 million on Friday, and “My Bloody Valentine 3D” was close behind with $8.3 million, the biggest wide release yet for a 3D movie.

Clint Eastwood’s “Gran Torino,” which topped the box office last week with the longtime star’s biggest ever opening, held strong with $6.3 million and is anticipated to total $20 million over the rest of the weekend.
