Margaret Cho Says She Was Proud To Dance For Bullied LGBT Youth

Margaret Cho might have exited the ballroom on Tuesday night’s “Dancing with the Stars,” but the “Drop Dead Diva” star told Access Hollywood she was proud to have her last dance send a message about the bullying of LGBT youth.

“I’m glad we had such a spiritual, strong message about pride and we wanted to reach out to these youngsters – all teenagers – who feel alone and feel lost and feel bullied,” the longtime LGBT advocate told Shaun Robinson after her elimination on Tuesday night.

“No we can’t get back the ones that we lost but we can stop it from happening again,” she continued, referring to the recent string of suicides by LGBT teens.

Margaret said the public’s reaction to her samba on Monday, during which she wore a rainbow pride dress, has been thrilling.

“It’s been overwhelmingly positive, it’s been really beautiful,” she told Shaun. “People have been so proud and excited and I’m just so elated.”

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Margaret said Monday’s dance with professional partner Louis van Amstel was inspired by the recent tragic events.

“Our story is serious because we want to celebrate pride, we want to show ourselves off. It’s a tough time for the gay community. A lot of gay teenagers have committed suicide, so we want this to end now,” she said at the time.
