Maria Sharapova’s Mane Accessories! (Glam Slam)

Style is tennis superstar Maria Sharapova’s sweet spot.

The Russian-born beauty may have dropped out of the U.S. Open due to an injury, but she still made fashion headlines here in New York City.

On the heels of the successful launch of the Sugarpova candy line, she launched her own line of accessories, including hair, t-shirts and cosmetic cases at Henri Bendel. The playful collection, which Maria co-designed, features her cheeky lip logo.

“I’m a fashion girl at heart and I love accessories. [I was very involved in the design], as I know what I like to wear, but I also designed with the consumer in mind,” Maria revealed to Glam Slam.

While Maria is known as a global tennis superstar, she’s always ranked high on the style scene. At 6’ 2”, the blonde beauty has the look of a supermodel and her fashion sense is coveted both on and off the court – especially her ponytail.

“[A ponytail] stands out and makes a statement. Plus, a lip logo in your hair won’t go unnoticed,” adds Maria.

It’s no surprise, hair accessories are a major part of her foray into fashion world. She’s got a flirty collection of bobby pins and ponytail holders.

“The bobby pins are a great way to hold back those little strands of hair,” states Maria.

Yet, according to her longtime hairstylist Adir Abergel, there’s no one who can sport a ponytail like Maria. He serves up the secrets to her bouncy ‘do.

“To create the perfect ponytail you have to start with the right texture. I like to put in a slight wave and to use a dry shampoo to create traction and texture. Follow by gathering hair right at the crown so placement is right and that your ponytail will have bounce and a flirtiness to it. Make sure you leave texture and a little volume in front so it’s not too flat. When using the signature Maria Sharapova ponytail elastic, make sure to have the lips logo face up to add to a little fun and style to your look.”

As for Maria’s future plans in the fashion world, she reveals, “I’m always pushing the envelope to find new and creative ways to expand my company, but I’m happy with the accessories line for now.”
