Mark Ruffalo Bulks Up For ‘Avengers’ Hulk Role

Mark Ruffalo is bulking up to play one of Marvel’s strongest heroes in “The Avengers.”

“Are you ready for the Hulk?” Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush asked the Oscar nominee on the red carpet at Sunday’s big show in Hollywood.

“I’m getting ready, I am. I’m getting ready. I’m excited about [it.]” Mark, who walked the red carpet with wife Sunrise Coigney, said.

Billy grabbed Mark’s arm, saying, “Oh my God!… That’s a huge gun Ruffalo. I’m very surprised!”

“That’s amazing, you can put your whole hand around it like that,” Mark joked. “It’s great, it’s really coming along.”

Billy asked if wife Sunshine talked her husband into becoming a Marvel hero, just like she convinced him to star in “The Kids Are All Right.”

“I said, ‘Go have some fun,’ and you know what? He’s actually been a huge fan of The Hulk — since he was a little boy, so it was a sort of, ‘Oh my God, oh my God, The Hulk!’ And I think even the second Hulk [he was excited],” Sunshine told Billy. “Mark was moping around the hotel at that time because he was doing another movie. He’s like, ‘God, I really love The Hulk. I can’t believe this.’”

“It’s my generation’s Hamlet. We’re all gonna get a shot at it,” Mark said referring to Edward Norton and Eric Bana, who have all played the green guy on the big screen.

“The Avengers” with Mark’s co-stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans and fellow Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner is slated to hit theaters in summer 2012.
