Matt Damon: Forget Me – Michael Douglas Should Win The Emmy!

Matt Damon is up against his “Behind the Candelabra” co-star, Michael Douglas, for the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie Emmy this year.

Despite his own nomination, the “Elysium” star says he’s rooting for Michael come Emmy night.

“[I want] Michael [to win]. Really. I swear to you!” Matt told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson at the “Elysium” junket in Los Angeles on Friday, when asked if he’s hoping to win the Emmy himself for his role in the Liberace biopic, or if he wants Michael to take home the statue. “I really want him to [win].”

Not only does Matt believe Michael’s performance as the flamboyant pianist deserves recognition, but the actor said the fact his co-star delivered such a powerful portrayal after defeating throat cancer is also award-worthy.

“It’s just such a great story and given his recent years, to come back from [cancer] and to whoop cancer’s ass, and then do that?” he explained. “He should have some kind of trophy, right?!”

Matt and his wife, Luciana (as well as the couple’s four daughters), moved to Los Angeles this week and the 42-year-old dad is happy he’ll once again be living near his longtime friend and “Good Will Hunting” co-star, Ben Affleck.

“[We’re on] the same street,” he said. “I tried to get him to come back East for years and finally I just gave up and I was like, ‘All right.’”

See Matt in “Elysium” – in theaters on Friday.
