Matthew McConaughey Talks Stripping For Magic Mike: ‘Scary’ At First, Then ‘Like A Drug’

Audiences will soon be treated to the sight of Matthew McConaughey’s toned body and cut abs as all-male strip club owner Dallas in Steven Soderbergh’s “Magic Mike,” where the actor will be seen performing a self-proclaimed “wonderfully filthy” dance on the big screen.

While the 42-year-old father of two wasn’t initially supposed to strip in the film, Matthew said he quickly surrendered to the stripping siren song.

“Soderbergh said in the beginning that if it felt right, I could strip at the end of the movie. I said, ‘I gotta dance, man,’” Matthew told The Advocate in an interview for their latest issue. “I would regret it for the rest of my life if I was in a male stripper movie and didn’t get up there and strip myself.”

Once the dancing began, Matthew said he was instantly addicted and had “a ball” busting his carefully practiced moves.

“At first it was scary as hell, but then it became like a drug, and I couldn’t wait to do it again,” he told the mag.

And his costume of choice? A carefully designed thong.

“We took a lot of time designing it because the thong’s your armor, man. It’s your sword,” he told the mag. ‘Well, I guess it’s really the sheath for the sword.”

After months of rehearsing for “two, three nights a week,” Matthew was ready to let his nearly-naked choreography shine and scoffed at the idea of using a body double.

“No way — that’s all me up there,” he said. “I don’t need a stunt ass.”

“Magic Mike” – which also stars Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer and Joe Manganiello – hits theaters on June 29.
