Meghan McCain Sounds Off On Gwyneth Paltrow Comparing Online Comments To War

The McCain family continues to voice their strong feelings about Gwyneth Paltrow’s recent comparison between online comments and going to war.

The actress caused a backlash when speaking about online criticism she’s read about herself.

“You come across [online comments] about yourself and about your friends, and it’s a very dehumanizing thing. It’s almost like how, in war, you go through this bloody, dehumanizing thing, and then something is defined out of it,” the Oscar winner said at Re/code’s Code Conference last month.

Cindy McCain, wife of Sen. John McCain, first took issue with the actress’ comments.

“Gweneth [sic] Paltrow is a joke. Her life is like taking bullets for a soldier. What a joke! My 2 sons serving in the military should talk to her,” Cindy Tweeted last week.

And on Tuesday’s Access Hollywood Live, daughter Meghan McCain echoed her mom’s sentiments.

“My father is a veteran, I have two brothers in the military, they’re both deployed and I just think comparing any experience to a solider at war – to me – is very disrespectful to what men and women give up,” Meghan told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover. “I totally agree with my mother, I thought it was a completely ridiculous statement.

“What kind of reality are you living in when the men and women that are giving up so much for this country – you’re comparing to being a movie star and internet comments?” Meghan, who appears on Pivot’s “TakePart Live,” continued.

Adding, “I mean, people lose their limbs in war. Give me a friggin’ break Gwyneth Paltrow!”
