Melanie Brown’s Baby Birth Certificate Revealed!

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (June 12, 2007) — Access Hollywood has obtained a copy of the Certification of Vital Record for Angel-Iris Brown, the infant daughter of Melanie “Scary Spice” Brown.

The Certification of Vital Record, issued yesterday by the LA County Department of Health Services, is not to be considered a “Valid Document To Establish Identity.” The actual birth certificate is only made available to the child’s parents, and is not a matter of public record. Furthermore, the official status of Iris-Angel’s parentage has not yet been established.

Brown, a former member of “The Spice Girls,” has long contended that ex-boyfriend Eddie Murphy is the father of Iris-Angel (born in Santa Monica on April 3), and has even listed the child’s middle name as “Murphy” on the certificate.

The question of paternity has been ongoing, with Brown stating to the Associated Press in April that there is “absolutely no question that Eddie is the father.” Murphy, however, has not been so sure — he told a reporter in December that no one should automatically assume he is the father since he and Melanie were no longer a couple. “We don’t know whose child that is until it comes out and has a blood test,” he said. “You shouldn’t jump to conclusions.”

During an interview with Access on May 1 at the U.S. launch party for BOOTS cosmetics brand in Hollywood, Brown said she had yet to hear from Murphy and she expected him to take responsibility as the father.

“He won’t do a DNA test and he won’t sign the birth certificate so now we’re having to go through lawyers because he won’t do either,” she told Access.

“It’s going to have to go to court so he can be forced to do it, which is strange since he was the one asking for it,” she told People magazine at the BOOTS event.

While Murphy reportedly underwent a paternity test for a DNA sample yesterday, the proceedings have been sealed to the press.

Brown’s publicist said in April that Melanie had listed Murphy as the baby’s father on the birth certificate, but the “father” sections are left blank on the Certification of Vital Record.
