Melissa Etheridge is taking the freedoms affirmed for her on Wednesday when the Supreme Court found that anti-gay marriage advocates had no standing to appeal the ruling that had overturned California’s Prop 8, by announcing she will marry her partner, Linda Wallem.
“I look forward to exercising my American civil liberties… and getting fully, completely and legally married this year to my true love of over three years, Linda Wallem,” Melissa Tweeted on Wednesday.
“So excited today I couldn’t find matching socks!! But I can still get legally married,” she added, posting a picture of her mismatched feet.
Melissa also expressed her joy over her upcoming nuptials during a phone-in on Wednesday on CNN.
“It is about family and I love my four kids, I called my — well now, fiancee,” Melissa said on the network. “I’m looking forward to marrying my partner of three years, we’ve been together.
“I’m going to get married in the state of California,” she continued. “I woke [my family] up this morning telling them the Supreme Court ruling on DOMA and I’m so proud of [my children and my fiancee]. I love you all, I love everybody out there. It’s a great day.”
Melissa and Linda have been dating since 2010.
