Melissa Leo told Access Hollywood her acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actress is a blur – expect for one bleeped part!
Access caught up with “The Fighter” star at the Vanity Fair Oscar party, where she explained the moment that had Oscar producers leaping for the censor button.
“Oh my Gosh. Well, I really would like to see it. I’m not sure what was said,” the Oscar winner told Access after the show.
Melissa did, however, clearly remember a standout moment from her speech.
“As soon as I said it, of course I heard it and I worked in television for a long, long time and I have a great respect for the rules especially of network television. I know where they earn their bread and butter and how they pay their workers and that’s through advertising. Advertising has a big problem [with what I said],” Melissa explained.
The actress said she was simply caught up in her whirlwind Oscar moment.
“I apologize from the bottom of my heart,” she continued. “Just slipped out. I was a little excited.”
After taking the stage at Sunday’s Oscars to accept her award the actress told the audience, “Really, really, really, wow… when I watched Kate [Winslet] two years ago, it looked so f***ing easy!”
According to Variety, Melissa has earned the distinction of as the first person to ever use that particular expletive during the telecast.
