Michael Strahan Departing ‘Live’ In May, Months Earlier Than Expected

Michael Strahan is stepping down from “Live With Kelly
and Michael” sooner than expected.

A spokesperson for the daytime talk show told Access
Hollywood on Tuesday that Michael’s final appearance will be Friday, May 13.

The decision came after talking with both Michael and his
co-host, Kelly Ripa, the spokesperson said.

According to the spokesperson, the impending date “not
only gives the show the chance to have a nice send-off for [Michael],” but
also enables an immediate search for his replacement.

“We have decided on a plan that best advantages both
shows for the future,” the spokesperson added, referring to both
“Live” and its fellow ABC program “Good Morning America.”

Michael is exiting “Live” for a full-time
position with “GMA,” which he will undertake in September.

Kelly  returned to “Live” on Tuesday after a
nearly week-long absence in the wake of her co-host’s surprising departure
announcement.

“I needed a couple of days to gather my thoughts,”
she explained to the audience, after receiving a standing ovation.
