Michelle Ryan Tapped As NBC’s New ‘Bionic Woman’

LOS ANGELES (February 14, 2007) — NBC has tapped British beauty Michelle Ryan to play the lead role in “The Bionic Woman,” per the Hollywood Reporter.

The 22-year-old actress, who is best known for role as Zoe Slater on the popular BBC soap “EastEnders,” will step into the role as a woman who is transformed into a technological wonder with $50 million worth of bionic body parts.

“The Bionic Woman,” starring Lindsay Wagner, originally aired from 1976 – 1978. The series was a spin-off from “The Six Million Dollar Man” starring Lee Majors.

Ryan made her first appearance on “EastEnders” in September 2000 at the age of 15. In 2005, she announced she was leaving the show to focus on her film career.

Since leaving the show, Ryan has appeared in the independent film “Cashback,” as well as episodes for the BBC’s “Marple” and “Jekyll.”

She will soon be seen in the film “I Want Candy,” alongside Carmen Electra.

No word yet on when NBC will air the pilot for “The Bionic Woman.”
