Miranda Lambert & Blake Shelton: A Look Back At Their Sweetest Moments

As everyone knows by now, Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert are divorcing, so love is dead.

We’re comforting ourselves by looking back at sweet things the country stars told us about each other, so we don’t go down a dark rabbit hole picturing the talented now-exes singing “Over You”/”Gunpowder & Lead” to each other while dividing up their assets and creating their canine joint custody schedule.

Here’s a look at some of our favorite quotes that gave us so much hope before dashing all of our dreams to the dirt and dousing it in “Kerosene” (yep, that happened and we’re too distraught to even apologize):

“Blake and I work well together – I think it’s because we don’t do it very often,” Miranda told Access in November 2011, six months after marrying Blake, of collaborating on her album. “If we did it often, I think we would go at each other. We bounce ideas off each other, and are fans of each other and each other’s art. When we do collaborate, it’s kind of like we push each other to be better. Especially vocally, he’s such an amazing singer… This was the first time we kind of sang together in the studio facing each other. It was definitely a push for me, because I respect him so much as a vocalist.”

Though they are two of the biggest names in country music, the couple appeared to have their egos in check and didn’t seem to experience any competition-driven tension.

In November 2013, Miranda told us she and Blake didn’t rub their wins in each other’s faces.

“We joke around about stuff like that… I mean, we used to be like, well how many CMAs do you have? How many ACMs do you have?’ You know what I mean?” she laughed. “Now we’re just like, we’re just so grateful and we’re both like, just glad to be here at this point. We feel like we’ve had some great moments together and got to share, you know, we shared in ‘Over You.’

“Writing the song ‘Over You’ together and winning the Song of the Year, that was amazing. And so everything is a blessing,” she continued. “Just getting to be there, getting to have a nomination, getting to sit there together as a couple and watch all these performances – just kind of I think for both of us it’s a little bit like not real sometimes, you know?”

The “Baggage Claim” singer also told us she respected Blake’s career advice.

“He’s really smart, and when he chooses the moments to be serious and has ideas and kind of suggests things to me about my career or something I’m doing, I listen, because he’s been at it a lot longer than I have too,” she told us at the time. “And so I respect him not only as my husband, but as another artist that’s really successful.”

In October 2013, Blake’s mom gushed to us about her daughter-in-law.

“[Miranda] is very, very sweet, very real, I love her to death,” she told us at the time. “She’s gorgeous. They get along great, they’re made for each other.”

Adding, “They’re very country. They’re the new Tim and Faith.”

When Blake’s fame skyrocketed after he became a coach on “The Voice,” the “God Gave Me You” singer told us his winning streak was great and all, but life with Miranda was better (why, God, WHY??).

“Success, when it happens, is awesome. But I’m just really happy and I’m more happy when I go home with Miranda than I am winning ‘The Voice’ or something,” he told us in September 2013. “That is what tells me I am truly happy with my life, is I dread having to leave home, because I am having more fun with her being home.

“It’s our first couple or three years of being married, and it’s still as much fun as I hoped it would be,” he added.

And then there’s this Oklahoma concert moment just mocking us on this depressing day: FOUR MONTHS AGO, at Miranda’s show, Blake came out and joined her to perform “God Gave Me You.”

“I wanted to do this song tonight, because Miranda is the reason I recorded this song,” he told the crowd of fans who were cheering their heads off, probably thinking, like we did, that this amazing couple would forever be their #lovegoals inspiration.

We have faith that Miranda and Blake know what’s right for themselves and we respect their decision to split because we heart them, but don’t be surprised if you see us sitting in a corner, rocking back and forth while singing “Mama’s Broken Heart.”
