Missing Bronx Zoo Cobra Launches Twitter Page, Takes Aim At Charlie Sheen & Conan O’Brien

All of New York City has been set abuzz by the two-foot-long Egyptian cobra that escaped from the Bronx Zoo over the weekend, and while the cobra is still missing, he now is seemingly infiltrating the world of entertainment.

While the search continues for the missing reptile, he has surfaced online, at least.

A Twitter page using the handle “BronxZooCobra” launched on Monday – and had already amassed more than 86,000 followers as of late Tuesday afternoon.

“I want to thank those animals from the movie ‘Madagascar.’ They were a real inspiration,” the page’s first Tweet read.

The micro-blogging creature appears to enjoy sinking its fangs into pop culture, with several Tweets aimed at some of entertainment’s hot topics.

Some of the other pop culture Tweets from the BronxZooCobra, as of Tuesday afternoon:

– “Dear @CharlieSheen, know what’s better than tiger’s blood? Cobra venom. #winning #snakeonthetown Also I’m 20 inches long. Just sayin’.”

– “I should take in a Broadway show. Anyone heard anything about this ‘Spiderman’ musical?”

– “Anyone know if Rebecca Black lives in NYC? No reason.”

– “Donald Trump is thinking about running for president?! Don’t worry, I’ll handle this. Where is Trump Tower exactly?”

– “Rockefeller Plaza is amaz….wait…OMG! Tina Fey totally just walked by me! HUUUUGE FAN!”

– “Forgot DWTS is tonight! Someone DVR it for me. Want to watch Ralph Macchio go down for what he did to Cobra Kai Dojo”

– “In front of the diner used in Seinfeld. Niiice! They’re real and they’re spectacular”

– “I agree with Brett Favre. Snakes should be set free!”

– “Taking the Sex and the City Tour!!! I’m totally a SSSamantha.”

– “According to the rules of Twitter, I think I’m supposed to announce a multi-city comedy tour now. Right @ConanOBrien & @CharlieSheen?”

According to the Associated Press, the Reptile House at the Bronx Zoo closed Friday after zoo workers searched but did not find the Egyptian cobra. Zoo officials said Monday they were confident the snake was hiding in the Reptile House but conceded that finding it would be difficult.

While Jeff Corwin, a wildlife expert from Animal Planet, told the AP that the 20-inch snake may be small but “has very toxic venom” and “should be respected,” BronxZooCobra wanted to make sure everyone had the correct information.

“Want to clear up a misconception. I’m not poisonous as has been reported. I’m venomous. Super venomous, but not poisonous so don’t worry,” one Tweet noted.

Once the cobra is found and returned to its protected habitat, perhaps it can help the Bronx Zoo with their social network outreach. While BronxZooCobra climbed near 100,000 followers, the zoo – which launched its Twitter page in August 2009 — currently sits with approximately 6,700 followers.

One of those followers? You guessed it, BronxZooCobra — who has made The Bronx Zoo the only page its following.
