‘Modern Family’ Siren Sofia Vergara Bemoans Her Early Development, Opens Up Regarding Colombian Childhood

Sofia Vergara receives plenty of attention for her sexy accent and curvaceous figure, but the “Modern Family” star says she wasn’t initially appreciative when her now famous assets arrived at the young age of 13.

“I was very skinny and I was very volumptuous [sic],” she told host James Lipton – adding her trademark Colombian flair to the word “voluptuous” — in an interview with the cast of “Modern Family” that will air on “Inside The Actors Studio” on Tuesday. “Now, they’re fantastic. But when you’re 13 years old?!”

Despite her early growth spurt, Sofia, who was born and raised in Colombia, said she enjoyed a blessed upbringing.

“I never had money problems. We always were in a comfortable position,” she said. “We traveled, [attended] very good schools — very good life.”

“Did you attend a bi-lingual school?” James asked.

“Believe it or not, I did,” she said with a laugh, mocking her renowned accent.

Sofia was discovered in her native Colombia at the age of 17, when a talent scout saw her walking on a beach and nabbed her for a Pepsi commercial.

The soda ad quickly rose to iconic levels, setting the now 38-year-old actress up for fame.

However, despite her obvious acting talent and glamorous looks, Sofia revealed she originally set out with more humble career plans.

“It was huge. After [the commercial] they wanted me to act, to be a TV host, everything,” Sofia said. “But I just wanted to get married [and] go to dentist school. I didn’t finish though, because all of the opportunities [that arose].”

Catch the full interview with Sofia and the cast of “Modern Family” on “Inside The Actors Studio” – Tuesday at 8 PM on Bravo.
