More Gladiators, Please! Starz Gives ‘Spartacus’ A Season 3

He hasn’t even made his debut as the new star of Starz’s “Spartacus” franchise, but Liam McIntyre clearly has won over the network, because the series has already been renewed for a third season.

On Monday, Starz revealed that “Sparatcus,” which premieres its second season – “Spartacus: Vengeance,” on January 27, 2012, will definitely be coming back.

“There is no denying the impact ‘Spartacus‘ has had in the marketplace with fans across the globe thirsting for the continuation of the epic tale,” Starz Media Managing Director, Carmi Zlotnik, said in a statement. “‘Vengeance’ brings unparalleled action and drama to STARZ viewers in January. We are thrilled to come to an early agreement that allows the writers and talent to get right back to work in preparing for Season 3.”

Production on the third season of the franchise, is expected to begin early next year in New Zealand.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Liam took over the role of Spartacus, with the blessing of original series star Andy Whitfield, who passed away in September after a battle with cancer.

Liam and the cast – Lucy Lawless, Dustin Clare and Manu Bennett – recently wrapped up Season 2 and the actor recently told Access he left the series, which now follows the ex-gladiators after they begin to form an army, in pain.

“I certainly beat my body into submission… It’s like a tenderizing thing. It’s good — it means there’s cool things in the show, which is a good thing,” he noted.
