MTV Saying Goodbye To ‘The Hills’ After Season 6

“The Hills” will no longer be alive at the end of Season 6.

MTV announced on Thursday morning that the reality show, which gave the world Heidi Montag, Spencer and Stephanie Pratt, Audrina Patridge and Justin Bobby, will close shop at the end of its upcoming season, later this year.

“We are lucky and honored to have worked with this cast and tell their stories for this long, and we are grateful to the many dedicated fans who have stuck with us over the years,” Tony DiSanto, President of Programming for MTV, said in a statement. “We owe it to those fans, the cast and the show to go out on a high note. And this season will deliver on that goal in terms of drama, story, real emotion and an organic culmination of this saga.”

Spencer Pratt recently announced he was leaving “The Hills” to become a cyber cop, however, MTV later clarified Spencer’s remarks to note that he would be featured during several episodes of Season 6.

“In the last few months, I, Spencer Pratt, have discovered a new passion and new purpose to my life. With this in mind, I have decided to take a break from my obligations to MTVs ‘The Hills’ and discontinue filming any more episodes for this current season,” Spencer previously said in a statement issued to Access Hollywood.

The reality star, known for his flesh beard and love of new age crystals, said President Obama inspired his new career choice as a founding member of American Defense Enterprises’s Cyber-Security Division.

“Upon learning of President Obama’s declaration that the ‘cyber threat is one of the most serious economic and national security challenges we face as a nation’ I have decided to refocus my energy and devote my full resources to helping America face this and other unprecedented challenges,” Spencer continued. “With this in mind, I’ve founded the Cyber-Secuity Division at American Defense Enterprises.”

Lauren Conrad, around whom “The Hills” was originally based, left the show in 2009. Kristin Cavallari, Lauren’s former “Laguna Beach” docu-reality TV co-star was brought in during Season 5. However, ratings for the show declined following Lauren’s departure.

The final 12 episodes of the show kick off on the network on April 27 at 10:30 PM ET/PT on MTV.
