Naomi Watts Reveals Most Difficult Diana Challenge

Playing the late Princess Diana is no easy task and Naomi Watts told Access Hollywood she was hesitant to take on the icon in the new biopic “Diana” – and she was especially concerned about one aspect of playing the beloved British Royal.

“Her voice was the biggest thing that I had to really work on,” the actress told Access at the premiere the movie on Wednesday night in New York City.

“Everyone remembers that voice so well and of course the look. I’m not really anything like her to look at and we did little things,” she explained. “But, if you do too much it gets silly and distracting, so we tried to be subtle.”

The 45-year-old said she initially had concerns about playing the late icon, who died in 1997.

“I hesitated in the beginning. I was nervous about the fact that everyone has an opinion of this woman,” she said. “And the comparisons that would be made and, but also that’s part of the challenge that intrigues an actor I think. I wanted to make the transformation.”

Adding, “I wanted to play with this getting inside a character all the way and there was so much information available that it’s unlike anything I’ve ever taken on.”
