The hope of stardom for aspiring country singer Charla Corn has already faded — at least on NBC’s singing competition, “Nashville Star.”
Top 12 finalist Charla Corn, a former CMT correspondent, was removed from the competition the night before the show was scheduled to tape its premiere episode, Access Hollywood had learned.
“It became apparent in leading up to the premiere of the show that she could not sustain the rigorous schedule,” a source close to the show told Access. “She began to have trouble with her vocals even losing her voice completely at times.”
Charla’s misfortune became aspiring country group Third Town’s lucky break. A midnight phone call to the group plucked them from obscurity and landed them on the “Nashville Star” stage the following day.
“During rehearsals for the first episode, producers realized that Third Town was better suited for the Top 12 than Charla Corn,” executive producer Sally Ann Salsano told Access. “This was a very hard decision for everyone involved in the show but when a show starts with the top 12 , we as producers have to do everything in our power to make sure that the TOP 12 acts from the nation wide search are truly represented.”
As for the booted contestant?
“We wish Charla the best,” Salsano added.
“Nashville Star” premieres Monday on NBC at 9 PM.
