Nashville’s Sam Palladio Teases Gunnar’s Season 2 Journey: He’s ‘Finding Himself’

“Nashville” returns for its second season tonight on ABC and beyond the fate of Rayna James and Deacon Claybourne, fans are also waiting to see what will happen with Gunnar Scott and Scarlett O’Connor.

Moments before Rayna and Deacon’s car crash, elsewhere in the city, Gunnar got down on one knee and proposed to his Southern belle.

“It’s difficult to hint at anything because it’s a yes or no situation, obviously, but everybody moves into a different zone this year,” Sam Palladio, who plays Gunnar, told Access Hollywood. “Gunnar’s finding himself.”

The show’s Austin-bred guitar slinger (although Sam himself is from Britain) is also still trying to get back on his feet, emotionally speaking, after the Season 1 death of his brother, Jason.

“After all that kind of — the brother stuff, that arc he went on was kind of crazy, so he’s finding his relationship with himself a little more and his music and a close relationship with Will — Chris Carmack’s character — builds more this year,” Sam said.

Sam also seemed to hint that Deacon’s troubles could continue this season on the show, when we asked him if Gunnar’s relationship with his girlfriend will continue.

“Yeah, very much so. That whole Scarlett-Gunnar-Uncle Deacon, I think, will forever be a kind of go-to well of drama,” Sam said. “So yeah, I’m back in there a little bit. We’ll see whether Deacon irons himself out.”

“Nashville” returns tonight at 10/9c on ABC.
