“ER” is finishing its final season, but fans can look forward to an extra three episodes of the long-running hospital drama – as well as fresh seasons of comedies “The Office” and “30 Rock,” NBC announced at the TCAs on Thursday.
“The Office” and “30 Rock,” now in their fifth and third seasons, respectively, have both been picked up for the 2009-2010 season, along with reality competition show “The Biggest Loser. ” “The Office” remains one of TV’s most popular comedies, while “30 Rock” picked up ratings to go along with its critical accolades this fall, mostly thanks to red-hot star & creator Tina Fey. The show swept its categories at the Golden Globes on Sunday, which included a Best Actress statue for Tina.
“ER” will now conclude with a two-hour finale on Thursday, April 2, following a one-hour retrospective.
Several new shows were also announced on Thursday. A new John Wells cop drama, “Southland,” will debut on Thursday, April 9, and Amy Poehler’s long-discussed untitled “Office”-inspired comedy will premiere earlier that evening. A new cooking competition, “The Chopping Block,” will premiere on Wednesday, March 11. Finally, previously announced drama “Kings” will launch on Sunday, March 15.
Amy’s show, originally rumored to be an “Office” spin-off, will follow in mockumentary footsteps as a show about the Parks and Recreation Department of Pawnee, Indiana. Former “Office” actress Rashida Jones will appear as local nurse Ann Logan, and Aziz Ansari (“Human Giant”) and Aubrey Plaza (an Upright Citizens Brigade alum set to star in Judd Apatow’s “Funny People”) will round out the cast.
