New Kids On The Block Rise Again

It felt reminiscent of 1989 in New York’s Rockefeller Plaza Friday morning as New Kids on the Block took the stage to the screams of thousands of elated fans.

Despite pouring rain and the early morning hour, over 3,000 people showed up to see Donnie, Danny, Jordan, Jonathan, and Joey, known affectionately as NKOTB to the hardcore fans, perform for the first time since 1994 on NBC’s “Today” show.

“We could get very weepy right now and sappy, because we absolutely have the greatest fans in the world,” Joey McIntyre told Matt Lauer. “It’s amazing.”

The NKOTB fan turnout amounted to one of the largest ever for the “Today” show’s concert series. Some fans had camped out since Wednesday to catch a glimpse of the boys in action.

The band treated fans to their hits “Step by Step” and “Hangin’ Tough” along with their new timely single, “Summertime.”

The newly reunited NKOTB will make stops in East Rutherford, N.J., and Boston on Saturday and Sunday.
