New ‘Superman’ Henry Cavill Worried About Stepping Into Coveted Role

Henry Cavill wasn’t sure he’d be taken seriously with that big red “S” on his chest!

The British actor, best known for his role on Showtime’s “The Tudors,” worried about suiting up in the Zack Snyder-directed “Superman” reboot, for which he’s been cast in the title role.

“All I could think was, ‘Oh, God, they’re going to look at me and go, ‘He’s not Superman, Not a chance,’” the 27-year-old actor told Entertainment Weekly. “The actor inside me was going, ‘You’re not ready! You’re not ready!’”

Director Zack Snyder, however, felt differently – especially when he laid eyes on Henry in the iconic costume.

“He walked out and no one laughed. Other actors put that suit on and it’s a joke, even if they’re great actors. Henry put it on, and he exuded this kind of crazy-calm confidence that just made me go, ‘Wow. Okay, this is Superman,’” Zack told the mag.

According to Variety, Alice Eve, Diane Kruger and Rosamund Pike are being considered for the female lead in the movie.

Henry graces the cover of EW’s latest issue, which hit newsstand on Friday. Superman’s next big screen adventure is targeting a December 2012 release.
