A former business manager for Nicolas Cage has filed a cross complaint in Los Angeles Superior Court claiming the actor was already deeply in debt when he was hired by the star in 2001.
As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, last month Cage filed suit against Samuel J. Levin, whom he claimed in court papers was an “incompetent business manager,” and whom he said sent the star, “down a path toward financial ruin.”
But in his cross complaint, filed late last week, Levin claims that when he was hired by Cage in 2001, the actor had already, “squandered tens of millions of dollars he had earned as a movie star, he was deeply in debt, and he owed millions of dollars in accrued but unpaid income taxes, with no funds available to pay the debut.”

Nicolas Cage Loses Homes To Foreclosure Auction
The latest blow in Nicolas Cage’s financial battles was dealt on Thursday when two of his New Orleans homes were sold at auction.
The star of films including “Leaving Las Vegas,” and “National Treasure: Book of Secrets” owes over $6 million in back taxes according to the IRS, and the New Orleans homes – located in the historic French Quarter – were sold at auction on Thursday.

Nicolas Cage has blamed an alleged “incompetent business manager” for a string of financial troubles, according to court papers obtained by Access Hollywood.
In the papers, filed on Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday, the box office star alleged that his former business manager, Samuel J. Levin, has been responsible for “sending Cage down a path toward financial ruin.”

The IRS is seeking more than $6.2 million from Nicholas Cage, Access Hollywood has confirmed.
In court documents obtained by Access, a $6,257,005 tax lien was filed against the star on July 14. Public records reportedly show that the figure stems from alleged unpaid income tax for 2007.
