Nicole Kidman & Cate Blanchett Get Stamped Down Under

Nicole Kidman is one of four actors set to be honored by the Australian Postal Service by appearing on a postage stamp.

Nicole, Cate Blanchett, Russell Crowe and Geoffrey Rush, all Australian Oscar winners, will appear on stamps down under in the coming days.

“I have a vested interest in Australia,” Nicole told the Sydney Morning Herald. “I want my children to live here at certain times of their life and see how wonderful it is. It would be lovely for them to lick a stamp, put it on an envelope and say ‘that’s my mum’.”

The special postage stamps are being issued as part of Australia Day, January 26, according to the newspaper.

“These four outstanding Australians have captured the imagination of millions of people in Australia and around the world with their award-winning performances,” Australia Post managing director Graeme John said in a statement, according to the paper.

All of the stars will be pictured in character and as themselves. Their character pictures come mostly from the films they won Oscars for including Cate in “Elizabeth,” Geoffrey in “Shine,” and Russell in “Gladiator.”

“I am utterly, deeply, humbled and chuffed by the fact that I’m a stamp… I’m going to be licked by millions of Australians and I can’t wait,” Cate said in a statement to the paper. “It is also recognizing the value of the arts in Australia. It brings it into general consumption and if I’m part of that, I feel intensely proud.”

There will be eight stamps in total, each worth 55 Australian cents, which works out to about 39 cents, American.
