N.W.A. ‘Straight Outta Compton’ Movie Gets Release Date, First Cast Photo

The N.W.A. biopic, “Straight Outta Compton,” has a cast – and now, a release date.

On Wednesday, Universal announced the film will hit theaters on August 14, 2015. Along with the announcement, the studio also unveiled the first photo of the cast, who will be portraying three of the notable members of the groundbreaking LA-based rap group – Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-E.

Dr.Dre will be played by Corey Hawkins; Eazy-E will be played by Jason Mitchell and Ice Cube – whose real name is O’Shea Jackson, will be portrayed by his real-life son, O’Shea Jackson Jr.

“Finally found the cast for the NWA movie. Me, Gary Gray, Dre w/ Cube, Eazy & Dre #StraightOuttaCompton coming 8/14/15,” Ice Cube Tweeted on Wednesday, along with the photo.

Dr. Dre also posted the photo, simply with the caption, “8/14/15 #StraightOuttaCompton.”

Casting is still underway for the final two members of the iconic rap group.

“Still looking for our MC Ren and DJ Yella,” Ice Cube noted in another Tweet on Wednesday.

The film – which, according to Universal, “tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war” — will be directed by F. Gary Gray (“Friday,” “The Italian Job”) and produced by Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Matt Alvarez and Tomica Woods-Wright (the widow of Eazy-E).
