Hailee Steinfeld is on top of the world this weekend, nominated for her first Oscar – for Best Supporting Actress, for her role in “True Grit” – but things weren’t always easy for the teen.
In this Sunday’s edition of Parade magazine, the actress revealed that she was a victim of bullying in school.
“I was teased really bad,” Hailee told the magazine of the bullying, which occurred between third and sixth grade. “I just happened to be that kid everyone picked on. It’s the worst.”
Life is a lot better now for Hailee, and she’s even open to enrolling in a public or private high school, if a film set doesn’t call.
“I think that whatever I do next [in acting] will kind of determine my decision,” she said.
Hailee revealed she is also thinking about college too, using a fellow Oscar nominee as her inspiration.
“I look at [Harvard graduate] Natalie Portman, and I think it’s so awesome that she took time off and got this amazing education,” she said.
As she heads into Oscar weekend, one of the biggest weekend’s of her young life, Hailee admitted she hasn’t seen many of her competition’s films.
“Well, most of them are rated R,” the underage Hailee – she’s 14 — said.
Still, not seeing all the nominees’ films hasn’t kept her from getting excited over meeting her fellow stars.
“I always get so starstruck,” she said. “I met Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, and Armie Hammer at a luncheon. Ahhh! That was a good day.”
