Paul McCartney Explains How He Settled On Yankee Stadium For Upcoming Concert

In 1965, The Beatles famously played Shea Stadium, but they never made it just one bridge over – from Queens to the Bronx and to the most famous baseball park in America – Yankee Stadium. All that is finally about to change.

“You’re on tour again, July 15th, Yankee Stadium,” Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush said to Sir Paul as the rock legend sat down to promote the fifth anniversary of The Beatles “Love” in Las Vegas and his new tour.

“Yeah, yeah, that’s right… [someone ] would say, you know, ‘Would you like to play at Yankee Stadium?’ And [I] go, ‘Yeah.’ So it sort of happens like that,” Paul said.

“You love New York, don’t you?” Billy asked.

“I love New York, yeah. I’ve always loved New York. But Linda was from New York, so I’ve got family there,” Paul said, referring to his late wife, who passed away in 1998, the result of cancer.

Heading to Yankee Stadium will be a treat for Sir Paul, but perhaps not as much for his drummer, Abe Laboriel Jr.

“You’ve got one issue as I see it, and I don’t know if you know this, but Abe, your drummer is a Boston guy,” Billy said.

“I know,” Paul said.

“In Yankee Stadium! Are you going to sell him out?” Billy asked.

“I’m not prejudiced,” Paul laughed.

No prejudice, just a whole lot of love on the red carpet as Paul and fiancee Nancy Shevell hit the red carpet for the 5th anniversary celebration of the Cirque Du Soleil “Love” show at The Mirage.

Hollywood represented too at the event – Rita Wilson, Elijah Wood and Gayle King were among the notables, and of course, those closest to The Beatles – Yoko Ono with son, Sean Lennon, legendary producer George Martin and son Giles, and George Harrison’s widow, Olivia, with son Dhani.

“I’ve been thinking about George a lot today, actually, you know cause he would have enjoyed this so much,” Olivia said on the red carpet.
