Peter Jackson Announces He Won’t Be Bringing The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug To Comic-Con

It appears “The Hobbit” will not be making a repeat appearance at Comic-Con later this month in San Diego.

Director Peter Jackson announced in a Facebook video post on Monday that he will not be attending this year’s event where many had expected him to promote the second film in his “Hobbit” trilogy — “The Desolation of Smaug.”

“I told Warners that I just really wasn’t ready to present anything of ‘The Desolation of Smaug’ at Comic-Con this year,” Peter said in his post.

The director said completing filming on the trilogy is keeping him in New Zealand.

“We’re still shooting and we’re gonna be shooting through the period of Comic-Con, so we looked at what actors we could send to make a really cool panel. There wasn’t really anybody available. I can’t go,” he said.

Peter said they are so busy shooting bits for the final two films that he doesn’t have time to make a sizzle reel for the event either.

“This is the last ditch shooting that we’re doing and it’s going fantastic and these are gonna be great movies and I just had to take the Comic-Con burden, if you like, off my shoulders,” he said.

“The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” the second film in Peter’s “Hobbit” trilogy, will be released on December 13, 2013.

The third film, “The Hobbit: There and Back Again,” will drop on December 17, 2014.

Reps for Warner Bros. didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment from Access Hollywood.
