Prince’s Friends & Family Hold Private Memorial For Late Superstar – Exclusive

Prince’s friends and family hosted a private memorial for the late musician over the weekend at Prince’s former home and music compound Paisley Park in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

The service, held at Prince’s former residence, brought together 100 – 150 people, many of whom wore the color purple in the form of ties and hats in honor of late star’s signature color, according to a guest in attendance. The source told Access Hollywood that the service was held using two adjoining rooms, but the rest of Paisley Park was off-limits to mourners.

Prince’s celebrity fans and friends, including Anthony Anderson, Anthony Hamilton, Rosario Dawson and Maya Rudolph, as well as Prince’ sister, Tyka Nelson, gathered on Saturday, August 13 for a private memorial service for the late music icon.

Prince’s protégé Judith Hill (known to the public primarily a “The Voice” contestant who was a former backup vocalist, before Prince produced her debut album “Back In Time”) performed for guests, as did Prince’s childhood best friend and bandmate André Cymone. Prince’s former tour manager Alan Leeds also spoke to attendees, according to our source.

Pastor Billy G. Russell, a Senior Pastor at the Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Minneapolis, delivered a “comfort eulogy,” although Prince himself was a Jehovah’s Witness.

According to the guest, the event was more of an informal gathering of friends — “a mixer,” where Prince’s hits were played, and soul food was served at the end.

No photos were allowed inside the private memorial, but Rudolph (who formed and has performed in the Prince tribute band “Princess”) shared photos from outside the services on her band’s Facebook page.
