PSY & MC Hammer Explain How AMAs Dance Mash-Up Came To Be

Intergenerational dance crazes got all mixed up on Sunday night when PSY was joined on stage by MC Hammer.

While performing his worldwide smash hit, “Gangnam Style,” PSY uttered, “Hammer Time” and was joined by MC Hammer for a mashup of his Hammer’s 1991 hit “2 Legit 2 Quit” – the Korean pop sensation’s Hammer pants he was sporting during the beginning of his performance should have been a clue that something big was about to happen!

Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson caught up with PSY and Hammer backstage to get the scoop on their collaboration.

“What I thought was, I’ve got to do more than ‘Gangnam Style,’ so I thought about, thought about it… Something special, something huge, very massive,” PSY explained when asked about how their performance came about.

“I just got the word, MC Hammer, aww yeah,” he explained.

Hammer was psyched to join the international star onstage.

“He’s got the world dancing again. He’s got the world on fire. I love what he’s doing and I was a huge fan of his work,” the rapper star told Shaun. “It’s unbelievable the level that he has the world dancing. It’s only happened like four times.”

According to Hammer, PSY has now joined an impressive list of performers who have coined their own signature dance.

“He’s the fourth one to set the world on fire like that,” Hammer continued. “James Brown, Michael Jackson, Hammer time and PSY.”

“This is too much,” a humble PSY said.

“Other people may have a record, but they don’t have a dance,” Hammer added.
