Ralph Macchio Talks Possibility Of Regis Philbin On ‘Dancing’ & Status Of His Injury

“Dancing with the Stars” final four contestant Ralph Macchio was excited to hear the news that TV talks show legend Regis Philbin has been asked to join the hit ABC reality competition.

Access Hollywood caught up with Ralph at a rehearsal on Thursday, where he shared his thoughts of the 79-year-old spending some time the ballroom.

“He would be fantastic… personality is a huge part of this, your outlook, the ability to have fun,” Ralph said. “He is the pro… he would be a fan favorite as he already is!”

The “Karate Kid” star shared a helpful bit of advice for Regis, if he were to join next season.

“Pace yourself, that’s the only thing,” he continued.

The 49-year-old also gave Access an update on the ruptured cyst in his knee that had him questioning if he would be able to continue with the competition.

“It’s doing much better. It’s not getting better fast enough for me, but certainly substantially and improved,” he explained. “They’re telling me to keep it up and don’t work on it… Well, sorry, I don’t have the time or the space to do that, so we’re taking it lighter on the on set, but then we’re going to have to start pounding through soon enough.”

Adding, “It’s not an injury that needs surgery… it’s just something that needs to heal. I’m really proud that we got through last week.”

The final four – Hines Ward and Kym Johnson; Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy; Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas; and Ralph and Karina Smirnoff – return to compete on Monday’s “Dancing with the Stars” on ABC.
