Report: Bernie Mac ‘Expected To Make A Full Recovery’

Hospitalized comedian Bernie Mac is getting better, despite rumors to the contrary.

“Bernie Mac is still alive and being treated in a Chicago hospital for pneumonia and is expected to make a full recovery,” his rep told People on Saturday.

People reported on Friday that the comedian had been admitted to a Chicago hospital for the illness; it is unknown when he entered the hospital.

“Mr. Mac is responding well to treatment and will be released soon,” his rep said Friday.

The rep’s comments come despite reports from the Chicago Sun-Times on Sunday which stated that Mac was in “very, very critical” condition late Saturday.

The newspaper cited a source close to Mac’s family.

The Sun-Times’ news came following rumors of Mac’s death, which his representative called “absolutely untrue.”

“It is a very horrible rumor,” his rep told Chicago news outlets, according to the Sun-Times. “It is absolutely untrue. Nothing has changed from yesterday.”

The rep said his ailment was unrelated to his sarcoidosis, a chronic illness which can inflame the lungs and other tissues. He has reportedly been in remission since 2005.

The “Ocean’s Eleven” star most recently appeared on screen in “Transformers.”
