Report: ‘We Are The World’ Re-Recording Planned To Aid Haiti

Some of music’s biggest names are reportedly planning to come together to re-record “We Are The World” to aid the earthquake victims of Haiti.

According The Hollywood Reporter’s Showbiz 411, Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie are planning a 25th anniversary re-recording of their 1985 song, which provided famine relief in Africa.

The duo will reportedly gather a slew of the music industry’s hottest artists to record a new version of the song on February 1, following the Grammy Awards in LA.

Some of the artists reportedly planning to contribute to the song are Usher, Natalie Cole, and John Legend. The entertainment trade mag also reported that artists like Wyclef Jean, Sting, Fergie, Alicia Keys and Justin Timberlake are also possibilities.

The late Michael Jackson, who performed and co-wrote the song, is expected to be included in some capacity in the new version.

A source told the trade that the project hopes that the artists will “leave their egos at the door,” just as they did 25 years ago when it was originally recorded.
