Revenge Star Emily VanCamp Lands Captain America: The Winter Soldier Lead (Report)

Emily VanCamp is about to take a giant leap from major small screen success to a huge big screen blockbuster franchise.

The “Revenge” star, 26, has landed the coveted female lead role (love interest to Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers) in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” according to Deadline.

The actress will play Sharon Carter (niece of Peggy Carter – played by Hayley Atwell in the first film), according to the website.

Emily seemed to hint at the exciting news on Friday, Tweeting, “It’s been an AMAZING week. Thanks for all the twitter love! ;)”

Other actresses previously reported to be in the mix for the role of Sharon include “Game of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke, “Downton Abbey’s” Jessica Brown Findlay, “Community” star Alison Brie and “I Am Number Four’s” Teresa Palmer.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Frank Grillo – best known for roles in “The Grey” and “Warrior” – will square off against Chris Evans as the superhero film’s villain.

The actor (who was recently seen on the big screen in “Zero Dark Thirty” and “Gangster Squad”) will play Crossbones, the leader of New York City’s Savage Crims gang, who then joins forces with the Red Skull.

Also appearing in the Marvel sequel are Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Scarlett Johansson and Anthony Mackie, who is playing The Falcon.

“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” hits theaters on April 4, 2014.
