Ricky Gervais ‘Never’ Wants To Host Globes Again, But Praises This Year’s Audience

Hollywood’s best and brightest aren’t the only ones happy they made it through the Ricky Gervais-helmed Golden Globes relatively unscathed this year—the Brit himself has spoken out about the high-pressure job, admitting he’s relieved it’s behind him.

“Phew! Thank [expletive] that’s over,” Ricky wrote in a blog posted on his personal website, in reference to Sunday’s ceremony. “I had a blast actually. It was by far my favourite of the three hosting stints.”

Though the outspoken comedian enjoyed the job, he said he’s not interested in taking the wheel again.

“I’ve told my agent to never let me be persuaded to do it again though,” he wrote. “It’s like a parachute jump. You can only really enjoy it in retrospect when you realize you didn’t die and it was quite an amazing thing to do.”

The 50-year-old star also had praise for this year’s audience, saying they seemed to understand his sometimes caustic humor a bit more this time around.

“The crowd [was]great this year too,” he wrote. “I think they finally worked out that my gags only seemed rude and nasty but were actually not too scary at all. Or they were just drunker.

“Either way, it was fun but I’m glad to say I’m off to New York to chill out a bit,” he added. “Ahhhhhh. And relax.”
