Ricky Martin Partners With Habitat For Humanity To Help Haiti

Ricky Martin has partnered with Habitat for Humanity to create a new relief fund to assist those in Haiti whose lives have been devastated by the 7.0 earthquake earlier this month.

The Ricky Martin Foundation/Habitat for Humanity Haiti Recovery Fund was created earlier this week after the international pop sensation visited the island nation alongside Habitat for Humanity International’s CEO Jonathan Reckford.

“Right now I’m going through a lot of emotions with the things we’ve seen here in Port-au-Prince,” Ricky said in a video blog on Habitat’s Web site. “But still there’s a lot [of] hope, because there’s a lot of space for healing.

“Little by little we are gonna start building just like we did in Thailand right after the tsunami… we can do the same. We need your help,” Ricky added. “We can help. Please join us.”

The group is taking donations through its Web site (http://www.habitat.org/rmfhaiti) and contributions will be used to help the organization repair housing for as many families as they can.

A $10 donation can also be made by texting ‘RMFHAITI’ to 25383.

And Ricky is helping make donations even sweeter.

The first 10 donors to contribute at least $1,000 to their cause will get two VIP tickets to their choice of concerts on Ricky’s next world tour, two meet and greet passes and an autographed Habitat for Humanity hardhat.

The first 30 $750 donors will receive two VIP tickets to a concert of their choice on Ricky’s next world tour, while the first 50 donors giving $500 or more will receive a signed Habitat for Humanity hardhat, dedicated to the donor or a name of their choice.

The organization will also launch an auction next week, featuring a host of Ricky-centric items. The auction will be launched HERE (www.charitybuzz.com/rmfhaiti).
