The
BAFTA winner launched the careers of Natalie Portman and Milla Jovovich with
’90s thrillers “The Professional” and “The Fifth Element,”
respectively, and he also
helmed the 2014 Scarlett Johansson mind-bender “Lucy.”

While
Rihanna does have some big screen experience to her name, “Valerian”
could be her highest-profile movie role to date. She previously appeared in
2012’s “Battleship,” and cameoed as herself in 2013’s “This is
the End.”

“Valerian
and the City of a Thousand Planets” is due out sometime in 2017.
