Rihanna Donates $1.75M To Barbados Hospital In Honor Of Her Late Grandmother

Rihanna is giving back to honor her late grandmother, who she called Gran Gran Dolly.

According to E! Online, the singer has donated $1.75 million to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown, in the name of her grandmother, Clara “Dolly” Braithwaite.

The hospital’s radiation department will be renamed the Clara Braithwaite Centre for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine.

“This was my way of giving back to Barbados, in a form of philanthropy, by assisting the QEH in its continued modernization program…I believe that this will have a huge impact on the people of Barbados. This was all done to save lives or at least extend them,” the singer said in a statement to E!.

Rihanna shared the news of her grandmother’s death in June on Twitter, writing, “Goodbye #grangranDOLLY get your beauty rest until I see you.”

The singer also honored her grandmother by getting a tattoo across her chest after Dolly lost her battle with breast cancer.
